Balancing: Bike Riding Basics

Learning to Balance with Karen Porter

At the Galvin Therapy Center, we strive to create independence in our children by teaching a variety of activities. For instance, our balance and coordination exercises focus on teaching children to overcome the anxieties of bike riding.

In this video, Karen Porter teaches how to balance on a pedal-less bike. The child is instructed to push the bike forward with his feet and coast to a stop, catching himself from falling by placing his feet on the ground. Once the child can glide adequately on the pedal-less bike, they begin training on a bike with pedals.

Karen Porter is the Senior Occupational Therapist and Clinical Coordinator at the Galvin Therapy Center.
