It is natural to feel more fatigued, and tired during the winter as it gets darker earlier in the day, outside access to parks is limited with snow and it is easier to catch the flu and the cold. When you are feeling this way, being the best version of yourself for your kids can be hard to do. Try some of these tips below to relax and rejuvenate yourself as we start off the New Year!
- Take a steam bath with some Epsom salts and essential oil.
- Make shower melts ahead of time and add them to the floor of your shower when you need an extra boost of relaxation.
- Ingredients:
- 1 cup, Cornstarch
- 1/2 cup, Water
- Blue and Yellow Food Coloring (optional for colors)
- Our Favorite Measuring Spoons
- 5-7 drops, Therapeutic Grade Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- Square Silicone Mold
- Directions:
- Ingredients:
- Add the cornstarch in a small mixing bowl.
- In a separate bowl, combine 1/2 cup water and use the end of a toothpick or lollipop stick to dot the blue food coloring and mix it into the water. Then do the same for the yellow. I like to use a mix of yellow and blue so I can choose my green color and not have to go with a dark green.
- Mix in 5-7 drop of your essential oil to your water and stir.
- Add in the two tablespoons of water at a time to your cornstarch. Continue to mix to the colors disperse and clumps begin to form. Please note that this amount of water will NOT be enough to make the paste you are after. It is however a starting point so you can carefully ration water in and form your paste. I used about 1/2 cup exactly.
- Continue adding a few drops of water at a time, mixing well as you do. Once you have a thick paste it will be hard to mix but scoop and transfer the mixture to your square silicone mold. Smooth the mixture out flat using your fingertip.
- Freeze the contents for 1 hour or until the mixture is set.
- Ask a friend or family member to babysit for even an hour. Utilize the babysitter to sit and relax over running an errand.
- Bundle up and walk outside around the block and make conscious effort to take deep breaths as you walk
- Establish a nightly calming routine when the kids go to bed. Use this routine to help you wind down for the day: take a nightly bath or shower, watch a Tv show or movie, bundle yourself up on the couch or take that time to get to bed early for a good night’s rest.
